Christmas Gift Ideas for Seniors: Gifts for Independent Living, Household Items for Seniors, Low Vision Products, Around the House Gifts for the Elderly

Bought a grandma or grandpa themed gift last year and now you wonder what to buy this year, then think about purchasing a practical gift to use around the house. Do you have an older loved one who still lives at home but is finding life a little difficult? Then these suggested gift ideas for around the house can help make life a little easier for them. The gift of independence is sometimes the greatest gift of all!

As we all get older our eyes seem to grow weaker, and in fact some young people just have poor vision to begin with. That is why we LOVE these large print items! The Large Print Address Book lets you look up information faster when you can see it better. Also includes more space/line so you can include every bit of information you may need in the future. The Large Print Calendar is easier to view and use. Larger squares mean you can enter more information/ multiple events if need be. The Large Print Weekly Planner is great for the busy senior. Keep all your appointments and important dates in order in this easy to view and use notebook style.

Does your special senior have mobility issues? Well keep them coming and going in ease with this Easy Open Door Knob Lever. It easily attaches to any doorknob to give your senior greater leverage. Comes in handy, especially when trying to open a door while carrying something.

Is grandma your favorite cook? Want to keep her happy in the kitchen? Then consider this ultimate in kitchen gadgets for seniors gift box! The Kitchen Helpers Gift Basket, includes the EZ grip jar opener, which helps senior open jars without straining their hands, a box top cutter for opening those tough to open cardboard food boxes, a set of big number measuring cups and a set of big number measuring spoons, with easy to see numbers, the Magic chopper, and a hands-free can opener, which helps seniors open cans without holding the cans. This gift box is an amazing value and would be of great use to any senior in their kitchen. Help make life a little easier for that special older loved one in your life!

Taking pills and other medicine becomes a fact of life as you age. Help keep things straight and organized with this Large Size Pill Organizer. The easy to read days of the week are great for people with low vision, and the large container size is easier to hold and open. Want to keep you medication straight and not mix them up when it comes time to take one or the other? Then the Pill Bottle Magnifier could very well be a life saver!

Want to make life a little easier for a special elderly person? Consider purchasing talking items. When an item talk to them that means less eye squinting and less twisting and turning to see something. One of our favorites is the Talking Thermometer. It tells you the temperature reading before the number can disappear from those typical tiny digital displays you see on store models. This item is also great when dealing with small children. The Talking Calculator is also another great item. Enter your numbers and let it tell you the exact amount you’re looking for. Looking for another life saver? The Talking CPR Rescue Flashlight can be of help in an emergency situation. This unit walks you through step by step how to perform CPR, as well as acts as a flashlight. This mutlit-use tool could save a life one day.

Gifts for Active Seniors, Gifts for Grandma, Gifts for Grandpa, Games for Seniors, Gifts for Seniors

Just because you’ve reached a certain age doesn’t mean you have to stop living and having fun, just ask any senior citizen you know! However, mobility and vision issues may pose a problem as some people do get older. Taking this all into consideration we have compiled a list of great gifts for active seniors. Whether physically or mentally active we all know that keeping one’s mind and body in shape helps towards a longer and happier life.

When looking for gifts for an active senior we recommend these games. Also don’t forget to consider any hobbies they may have.

Grandma Golf Balls or Grandpa Golf Balls make the perfect gift for the grandparent who likes to tee off. Golfing is a great way to spend time outdoors while getting some physical exercise. Need golf balls to celebrate a special birthday? Look at these 50, 60, 70, and 80 themed golf balls.

Does your special senior like to go to the casino? Love to play cards with friends or alone? The Large Screen Poker Game and Large Screen Solitaire Game make perfect gifts for grandma or grandpa to keep up on their skills. Perfect to play with at home or easy enough to take along anywhere they go. Want to share the fun? Large Print Playing Cards make it easy for seniors to see the hand they’ve been dealt.

In this day of video games and computers board games may be a thing of the past for this generation’s children, but the past is what these board games mean to capture! With games like the Reminiscing Game and Life Stories players get to reflect and tell stories about the past. Great to play with friends and especially family!

Who doesn’t love a good puzzle? Now Grandma and Grandpa can enjoy the art of the puzzle with these large piece, low vision, puzzles. The larger pieces are easier to handle and the puzzle art appears larger. Great for seniors and children! The perfect gift for grandparents to share with grandkids!

Does your active senior want to stay that way? Keep them in shape and in the holiday spirit with this special edition of the Sit and Dance DVD series. Need an exercise video grandma or grandpa can use throughout the rest of the year? Then consider this Sit and Be Fit DVD. Both DVDs show easy and safe ways to exercise.

One of the biggest concerns facing the elderly is their ability to remember and retain information. Keeping the brain active and healthy is just as important as physical body work as you age. The Healthy Brain Kit is an easy way to get started on the road to good brain health. Games can be especially helpful when working to exercise your brain muscles. The 20 Questions Big Screen Game gets you asking questions and generating answers. Perfect to play alone or in a group, see who can stump the machine. Fun for play with grandchildren too!

Love all these ideas but just can’t choose? Then consider the Senior Games Gift Basket. This Activity Basket comes with some of the above suggestions and then more! Makes a great Christmas gift in its holiday themed box.

Christmas is Coming! Look at Gifts for Grandma! Grandma Christmas Gifts, Nana Christmas Gifts, MeMaw Christmas Gifts, & Grammy Christmas Gifts

It’s not even November but it feels like Christmas is right around the corner! Christmas items have been on the shelves for weeks at local retailers, so why not start your Christmas shopping now!

Typically the hardest person to buy for is a grandparent. What to get for a person who has everything they need? Consider something sentimental and special. After all, grandma and grandpa can never have too many pictures of the grandkids :)

For this post let’s focus on Grandma. Or you may know her as Nana, Memaw, or Grammy.

The Grandma Photo Tote Bag is a new item and I love it! Already have bought 2 of them as gifts and had so much fun picking out photos to put in the picture slots. Plus the bag is huge and can hold a lot of stuff in it. Because I love this item so much I am highly recommending it in gift basket form as one of my number one choices for grandma this Christmas. Normally my top grandma themed gifts would include the Grandmother Memory Book, a Grandma Mug and a Grandma Picture Frame, and this Grandma Tote Gift Basket has it all!

Looking for something unique and personalized? Then the Grandma Clock makes a great gift. The top portion of the clock reads “World’s Best Grandma” while the bottom portion you are able to customize with your own personal message. Clocks can be made for Grammy, MeMaw and Nana as well.

Have you ever felt that grandma was your guardian angel? Now you can let her know how much her guidance and love has truly meant to you with the Grandma Angel Pin. Make the gift complete by combining it with the Grandma Angel Christmas Ornament.

Grandparent’s Day Gifts, Gift for Grandma on Grandparents Day, Gift for Grandpa on Grandparents Day

Grandparents day is on its way! September 13th, this coming Sunday, is national Grandparent’s Day! Celebrate that special grandparent in your life by sending a thoughtful gift. Use this time as an excuse to show just how much you really do care and appreciate that special grandparent in your life. Whether big or small, no matter the cost, a little something from out of the blue can brighten any senior’s life.

Need help finding the right gift for a Grandparnets Day Gift? Then look no further, we’ve narrowed it down to some real thoughtful gifts that will bring a smile to their face.

Tell your grandparent or grandparents how much you care with a personalized poem. Each poem can be made to include their names, and a special message from you. Let the sentiment of one of these personalized poems relate how you feel towards them, and then take the time to include your own personal note at the bottom. This gift shows that time, thought and effort were put forth into purchasing the perfect gift that says it all.

Grandma and Grandpa have a funny side? Want to induce a chuckle or two? Then consider purchasing the Grandchildren Spoiled Here Doormat. This item lets all who come to their door know that they are grandparents and proud of it.

Ever wonder about your grandparents past? What was it like for them growing up? Now you can know! Have all your questions answered when you give the gift that keeps on giving, the grandparent memory book. Your grandparent fills out the book, making a great gift that lets them reminisce and share stories that may have been long forgotten. When completed they then return the book to you so you can read their comments and stories, or even better go through it together. Great for communicating with family members and sharing parts of the past. Giving this gift says, I love you and I want to know more about you. Need one just for Grandma? Need one just for Grandpa?

Want to celebrate that special day you married your partner with an unforgettable gift? Children needing gifts to commemorate mom and dads big day? You need look no further!

A 50th wedding anniversary is truly something to be admired and celebrated. No wonder they call it the golden anniversary! Because of this title many people feel inclined to purchase gifts that incorporate gold into them. These are more traditional gifts and will always remain a popular staple when giving a 50th anniversary gift. Consider a gold accented 50th Anniversary Picture Frame with room for old and a new pictures. This item lets you celebrate who they were and how far they have come together.

Gift for Grandma- What to get Grandma for Christmas!

Whether she’s your grandma or your nana, a grammy or a memaw, it doesn’t change the special place she holds in your heart. Let her know how much you appreciate her this holiday season.

What do grandmothers truly want? Even though we don’t personally know your grandmother let us guide you through this holiday season. The number one thing a grandma would want is to spend time with you, and hopefully this holiday season you will be able to do so. However, our jobs and where we live may keep some of us away from our loved ones this holiday season, so second best is a gift with real thought put behind it.

Ask yourself, “What would grandma like? Does she need or want anything?” Each grandmother is different and unique.

Every grandma is proud to be called a grandmother, so why not give her a grandma themed gift like the ever popular “Grandma Is My Name, Spoiling Is My Game” t-shirt, a grandma picture frame or a grandmother afghan for those chilly winter nights. Looking for an item with Christmas flare, then try a grandma ornament, or the grandma Christmas gift box. Does your grandma have a special name? Grammy, Gram, Granny or Memaw items can all be found in our online store.

Looking for something just right, something special just like your own grandmother, then consider these sentimental favorites. SeniorStore.com sells poems that are made to incorporate your own special name for your grandmother and a personal message from you at the bottom. Your grandmother will appreciate the extra time and thought that went into this gift made just for her.

Great Christmas Gifts for Grandpa

Just like grandma, grandpa’s have a special place in our hearts. And while the same is true that they would rather have time with you over a fancy gift, that can’t always be possible during the hectic holiday season. Let your grandfather know that you care by sending a thoughtful gift.

Ask yourself, “What would grandpa like? Does he need or want anything?” Each grandfather is different and unique, which is why Senior Store has a variety of gift ideas for grandfathers.

No one is prouder than a grandfather of his grandchildren, so let grandpa know how proud you are to have him in your life with a grandpa themed gift. A grandpa hat lets everyone he meets on the street know that he is a grandpa and proud of it, while a grandpa frame can show off his pride and joy. Not the average grandpa? Pawpaw, granddad, pop and poppy items can all be found in our online store.

Looking for a Christmas themed grandpa gift? Then try a grandpa ornament or our grandpa Christmas gift box. It contains popular items like our grandpa mug and matching coaster set.

Whether you spend $10 or $100 on Grandpa this holiday season just remember it is not the price that counts, but rather the thought behind it. And though gifts are nice, just being able to spend time with your family this time of year may be the best gift by far.

Household Items for Senior Gift Giving this Holiday Season

Bought a grandma or grandpa themed gift last year and now you wonder what to buy this year, then think about purchasing a practical gift for them to use around the house. These suggested items help make life a little easier for that older loved one.

Maybe they would like to sit in a comfy chair or in bed and do something that otherwise would need a table or additional support? Well now they can with the help of a bean bag lap desk. The bottom is soft and won’t hurt legs, while the top is sturdy. We have several flattering lap desk designs that can work with any décor or personality.

Does that special senior in your life love to watch TV? Then consider a large button remote. Just like a normal remote only with larger buttons that make the choices easier to see and gurantees that the right option is selected. Looking for something a little easier? Try a simple TV remote with fewer buttons. This remote is made to fit snuggly in the hand and gives only the most basic of TV options, like changing the channel and the volume.

Love talking to grandma or grandpa on the phone, or wish they would call more? Make calling a breeze with a  big button photo phone. The big buttons make sure they dial the right number when making everyday calls, and the pictures put loved ones and important numbers on speed dial.

Top 10 Christmas Gifts for Seniors

Tis’ the season and everywhere you look there are colored lights, hanging ornaments and of course Christmas music! Every website it seems wants to give you their top ten list for everything from hot kids toys to cheap gifts that look good. We didn’t want to miss the boat, so here is our own top ten list of Christmas gift ideas for seniors…

 10) Lighted Slippers - You may be thinking “Oh, this sounds cheesy” but they are really neat. You don’t have to be elderly to appreciate the functionality of this item. Perfect for when you don’t want to turn every light on in your house for late night trips to the bathroom or to the kitchen for a snack.

 9) Personalized Pet Print – Who is always there for that elderly loved one? Faithful Fluffy or Fido of course! Honor that bond by purchasing a personalized cat print or a personalized dog print. This item will include the pet’s name, the breed (you can choose mixed if breed unknown) and the owner’s name. There is even a picture slot for you to insert your own picture of your furry friend. Best of all, buy a gift you will feel good about! All proceeds from the sale of this product are donated to our local SPCA.

 8)  Lap Desk – Ever wish you could sit in bed or in that comfy chair in the den and get stuff done that you would otherwise have to sit at a table or desk for, I bet grandma or grandpa do! Well now they can with the help of a bean bag lap desk. The bottom is soft and won’t hurt legs, while the top is sturdy. The uses are endless, from writing out bills to holding that glass of milk and some cookies all from the comfort of that special spot.

 7) Fun & Games - Large piece puzzles and low vision playing cards make great gifts that can be used alone or in groups. Ask yourself, does grandma or grandpa have a hobby? Do they like to go to the casino? If so maybe they would like a big screen handheld poker game. Church bingo more their style? Try out a talking bingo machine that calls out the numbers and comes with its own bingo cards.

 6) Big Button Photo Phone - Does a large distance separate you from your loved one? Then shorten that distance with a new phone! This phone is great for seniors with large buttons that make dialing easier and features a speed dial with pictures to remind them who really is #1.

 5) Personalized Poems – Much like our other personalized print, this item can be made specifically for your grandmother or grandfather. Pick out the poem you like the best, fill in the title, their special name and a personal message from you at the bottom. It shows that you care enough to take the time to have something special made especially for them. Besides, how many other grandma’s can say they have their own poem made for just for them!

 4) Gift Certificates - Though these may seem impersonal, they are practical gifts. They do not need to be for a fancy department store or a trendy boutique, but rather get one for a local grocery store or drug store. These stores always contain items we all need. Want to pamper Grandma? Giver her a gift certificate for a spa treatment or pedicure! Grandpa love good food? How about credit at the local butcher shop!

 3) Grandma or Grandpa themed Christmas Gift Basket - These gift boxes come packed to the max! Some Christmas themed gifts and grandma/grandpa themed gifts make up the contents. Not sure what to get? Get a little of everything!

 2) Memory Books - Ever wonder what it was like for your grandparents growing up? Now you can have all your questions answered (and some you never would have thought to ask) with the gift of a memory book. This is two gifts in one! You give them the gift of remembering great memories and showing you care, and you get to keep these memories forever and pass them down for generations to come.

 1) Time & Attention – We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, a gift though well meaning is no substitute for your time and attention. This holiday season take the time to either visit, call or write those special older loved ones in your family.

Did we miss something? Want to add to our list, then post below :)

Fun Gifts for Grandparents, Games and Hobbies for Seniors

Who’s to say your grandparents can’t have some fun too! Large piece puzzles and low vision playing cards are great for single or group use. Want to keep that memory sharp then consider buying something like the Reminiscing Game, a board game that challenges seniors to remember everything from news making events to fads from 1939 on.

Ever wonder if those stories about walking five miles to school barefoot in the snow were true? Buy a Grandma or Grandpa Memory Book, and each day for the next year will be filled with tales from your grandparent’s life. If your grandparents can’t write consider reading them the questions and talking about the answers, and even writing them down yourself. These collected intimate stories will serve as part of your family history forever, and Grandma or Grandpa will be thrilled you want to learn more about them!

Want to share grandma or grandpa’s  stories with a group of family and/or friends, then consider the Life Stories Game, a sharing game good for any age! Young or old everyone will have fun answering the  ”What if?” and “Tell us about…” questions. But remember, you don’t need a board game in order to sit down and share stories with your loved ones.

When leaning towards a gift that would be fun for a senior take into consideration if they have any hobbies. There are plenty of senior friendly items like handheld poker games with larger screens or a talking bingo machine which not only displays the numbers but calls them out. Do they enjoy the daily newspaper crossword puzzle? Maybe a large print book of crossword puzzles will bring a smile to their face.

Black Friday Shopping List For Seniors, Gift Guide for Grandma & Grandpa Gifts

Just a quick note today in preparation for the big holiday weekend shopping extravaganza, as Black Friday signals the start of the holiday shopping season (even though Christmas items have been on the shelves since the start of September). Every year it’s the same, not enough of the item you got up at 3am to go and buy, long lines, large crowds and crazy traffic. No wonder that more and more people are doing their holiday shopping online.

Whether, you are going out to the malls and big box stores Friday or decide to stay at home and get some shopping done over the internet consider the following tips when making purchases for those older special loved ones:

1) Consider their health and wellbeing: Does grandma have a hard time seeing? Maybe she could use a low vision product to help her out around the house.

2) Consider special interests & hobbies: Does grandpa love to golf? Grandfather golf balls make a unique gift.

3) And remember… It’s the thought that counts, not the amount on the price tag.

Low Vision Gifts for Seniors, Christmas Gifts for Seniors, Low Vision Products

As grandmas and grandpas get older they may need more help, which is why we recommend our low vision products for Christmas gifts. They may not say they need it or even think they need it, but let’s face it, you don’t have to be elderly to have poor eyesight. Any of these low vision gift ideas are great for people who have a hard time seeing or people who just want some extra space when writing down important things.

The large print address book not only has larger print, but more room to add contact information. For people who write big (like me) it is perfect to write in your own legible size. The same is true for the large print calendar for 2009. The boxes are bigger so you are able to write in either more events or more details for a specific event. These practical gifts could help someone you love this Christmas Season.

From experience we all know that practical doesn’t always mean fun. Just because grandma or grandpa are having a hard time seeing doesn’t mean they shouldn’t continue to enjoy themselves. Ever popular choices for low vision gifts are the low vision playing cards and low vision puzzles. But have you considered the large print crossword puzzle book? Keeps the mind active, while banishing headaches from squinty eyes.

Here’s where practical and fun gifts collide into one. The large button photo phone will make calling easier with larger buttons and picture based speed dial system, if your elderly loved one loves to talk on the phone with family and friends then this gift will serve them well and bring a smile to their face. The large button remote makes television viewing more accessible. Want to change that channel, mute the volume, etc… it is all at the ease of a large button. Sometimes when we get frustrated we just give up (this applies to all of us) and just think if Grandma gave up on her TV and she had to watch ESPN all day. Now with the large button remote they will have the ease to makes their own viewing choices and change them with ease.

Christmas Themed Gifts for Seniors

We’ve noticed this year a lack of Grandma and Grandpa themed Christmas items. Since there seems to be a big interest in these items we thought we’d help out other bloggers looking for the right Christmas gifts with a couple of these themed ideas.

Always a popular choice is the grandma Christmas ornament. If you find the right kind of ornament your grandmother might keep it hanging in a special place all year long. Every time she sees it she’ll think of you and the special gesture you made giving it.

The holidays are a time to indulge ourselves, so why not consider some candy for that special loved one. Now that sugar free candies and chocolates can be found anywhere it makes it easier to give sweets that taste good and are good for you (well at least healthier than the real stuff). Hard candies are always a popular reminder of their own childhood days, so consider something like a tin full of these goodies.

Grandmas are more prone to oh and ah over a gift like a Christmas ornament, but maybe grandpa would like one too! Just like for grandma, if you buy the right themed ornament it might hang all year round. Looking for a grandpa themed Christmas ornament? We’ve found those too!

Christmas Gifts for Great Grandparents, Great Grandma & Great Grandpa

Some people consider themselves to still be lucky enough to have their grandparents around to celebrate the holidays, but some are even luckier because they have great grandparents too. While we know grandma and grandpa have a special place in our hearts we have to also wonder what would a great grandmother or a great grandfather want for a special gift this holiday season.

While any of our other gift ideas from household items for seniors to low vision products to games geared towards seniors could work for any great grandparent, finding items with titles like “great grandma” or “great grandpa” attached can be a tricky thing. However… we were able to track some down :)

“You put the Great in Great Grandmother” afghan says it all. This gift not only lets great grandma know how you feel about her, but keeps her comfy cozy on those upcoming winter nights. Unique Gifts for Seniors; Unique Gift for Grandma and/or Grandpa

Thank goodness for the internet and its ability to find you top notch gifts and get them to you quick!

We’ve recommended everything grandma and grandpa themed we could think of, found some helpful gifts for those seniors needing some extra help around the house, and even located fun games your older loved ones will enjoy. Now we would like to showcase some items which might make your shopping list complete.

Ever wonder where you last name came from? What does it mean? Well now with the “Origin of Your Last Name Print: Genealogy Print” all your questions can be answered. Who isn’t proud of their last name? It symbolizes your family heritage and makes a great gift for that loved one who has everything.

Grandma or Grandpa hard to shop for? Gotten them everything and then some and now you find yourself without a single idea in your head? Then consider buying a personalized poem. With a personalized poem you can change the title, the name and the leave your own personal message at the bottom. This gift is not only unique, but thoughtful. Grandma and/or Grandpa will appreciate that you took the time to have something special made just for them.

Speaking of taking time, why no take the time to get to know your grandmother or grandfather better. The grandma memory book and grandpa memory book help keep their memories alive within you and for generations to come. This little book asks your grandparent to answer a question everyday for a year. Some questions you may already know the answers too, or maybe you thought you did and some questions are so unique that you would have never thought of asking them to begin with. Our favorite question: Did you have an imaginary friend growing up? If so what were they like?

Try out a talking bingo machine that calls out the numbers and comes with its own bingo cards.

Easter Gifts for Seniors, Easter Gifts for Grandparents, Grandma Easter Gift, Grandpa Easter Gift

Tired of sending the same old, same old? Then try something new! Flowers are nice, but they last only a week or so, and candy is tasty, but a few bites and it’s all gone, that’s why this Easter consider giving a gift that lasts forever.

Useful Gifts are great because you know they will be used and you’ll get your moneys worth. A lap tray can be used no matter where you are sitting, as well as in bed. Use it to rest your hands on, eat off of, or to write on. A large print address book also makes a wonderful gift, and not just for those with poor vision. The large print style makes it easier to add more information on the person and/or their address. Is also great for people who write larger.

Fun Gifts are great for that person who has everything. Bored seniors especially love gifts that they can have fun with by themselves or with a group of friends versus the old stand by of watching tv. Large piece puzzles have easier to handle pieces and makes a great activity for low vision persons. Use this item alone or in a group! The Reminiscing Game lets participants reflect, remember and share stories from their past. This game is great for a group of friends or family members looking to learn more about one another. Also makes a great memory exercise!

Thoughtful Gifts are always welcome! This Easter give a gift that shows you thought just about that special person! A picture frame with photos in it or a personalized poem make great gifts. Our special favorite during this season is the Grandma Angel Pin & Card. Your Grandma a Nana? Then consider the Nana Pin & Card instead.

And don’t forget! Mother’s Day is just around the corner!

A Grandma Angel Pin & Card makes the perfect gift this Mother’s Day. Keep grandma warm on those chilly nights with her own Grandmother Afghan. Interested in grandma’s life, her journey from childhood to adulthood? Then give her a Grandmother Memory Book. Grandma gets to fill it out, and you get to read it and keep it. Show grandma you really care about her by asking her to tell you more about herself. Also serves as a great memory exercise.

Have a mother who is a wonderful grandmother? Then acknowledge her this Mother’s Day by buying her a grandma themed item. Grandma themed items are great because they show the pride in being a grandmother. These products can vary, but we highly recommend a Grandma Mug or a Grandma T-shirt.

Consider buying a Great Grandma Brag Book, where she can keep all her favorite pictures of grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. Perfect to take out when company comes over, or easy enough to along on an outing to see family and friends. The Great Grandmother Double Picture Frame can sit nicely on a shelf or table, letting visitors get a glimpse of Great Grandma’s pride and joy.
